“Winterland” reflects impressions of vacations spent in the Alps.

The first sight of the colossal mountains often simply takes one’s breath away. This is why this overture opens with a majestic flourish.
Early in the morning cross country skiers are out in the winter landscape practicing their sport. As they are racing along their ski runs, they enjoy the varied beauties of the winter season to the full. At first they are taken only by an inward feeling of joy which gradually becomes stronger and stronger until it takes possession of the entire skier.
Finally, time has come for a lunch break. The skiers assemble for a picnic while it starts to snow gently.
When the lunch break is over, the cross country skiers are no longer among themselves, as the runs are now packed with all kinds of skiers, and you will also come across some “skiing socialites” as well. Fast and cheerful music now is heard all over the slopes.
Musically the day finally comes to an end with a grandiose long-sight on the majestic summits around you.
