It is probably right to assume that Fucík relied on sketches of this march that dated back to common vacations with his wife Christine in either Tyrol or the Trentino, as it was completed relatively late, namely during the Berlin period in Fucík’s life. The autograph of July 24, 1915 shows the original title “Loyal Tyrol” next to the opus number 287. When the march was eventually printed by the Prague publishing company Hoffmann in 1919, it was completely impossibly to select a title that sounded patriotic in the sense of the then despised Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Consequently the title “Souvenir of Trento” was chosen as this would not hurt the feelings of the citizens of the newly founded state of Czechoslovakia.
Siegfried Rundel’s arrangement of this fine composition means that contemporary bands may perform another fine march stemming from Fucík’s pen that only suggested something to the true connoisseur up to now.
