Rounds have always been popular especially in England and everyone must know Frère Jaques, Three Blind Mice and London’s Burning. However there are hundreds more and perhaps the form was at its most popular on the seventeenth century when Purcell was its most famous exponent. In the following centuries some of the greatest composers of the period, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert also used the medium and some of their rounds are included in this book.
