In 1905 the Italian born composer Ferruccio Busoni (1866-1924) composed incidental music to Gozzi’s fable ‘Turandot’ – the story of the Chinese princess – of which he extracted in the same year an orchestral suite. Later in his career he returned to the subject and composed an opera on it (1916-1917).The original ‘Turandot Suite’ consists of eight movements of which four are selected for this transcription.
