Ludwig von Mussinan (1826-1908) was a Lieutenant General in the Royal Bavarian Army. Due to his bravery shown in the battle of Sedan during the Franco-German war of 1870/71 he was decorated with the Militär-Max-Joseph-Orden. As a consequence of this decoration he was knighted and was awarded the personal, non-hereditary title “Knight of”. During his tenure as Colonel and Commander of the 4th Royal Bavarian Field Artillery Regiment “King” in Augsburg, his Staff Trumpeter Carl Carl dedicated his “Mussinan March” to him. In 1925 it became Army March II,248. Music Conductor Carl Carl took over the regimental band in the 1850s and eventually trained his trumpet corps to become an ensemble “without precedent in Bavaria that far” and in its obituary of August 1898 the Augsburg Abendzeitung referred to Carl as one “of the most talented, most competent and perhaps the most popular bandmaster of the Bavarian Army”.
