A majestically syncopated theme in the brass opens this exciting overture by Mark Wadleigh. Oak Ridge Overture is written in a fast-slow-fast form. The first section’s theme is upbeat and contemporary and is played by all of the sections at different times. The chorale-style middle section gives woodwinds and brass a chance to polish off their legato technique. The main melody returns in the third section, this time augmented by an exciting woodwind countermelody. Your timpani and percussion sections will shine with this contemporary- sounding work.
