The four-part suite Songs from the East End (1998), is inspired by Moravian folk songs. In the first two movements, Stanèk more or less sticks to the strophic pattern of the songs, but the third and fourth are fantasies on folk songs, with rich motivic work, less common harmonic turns, and frequent changes of orchestral colour.
