Tannhäuser’ is one of Wagner´s richest and most elaborate musical achievements. A mood of autumnal melancholy imbues the third and final act: Wolfram feels the chill hand of impending death, but finds comfort and encouragement in the ´dearest´ of all the stars, the ´Evening Star´. He sings the aria ‘O du mein holder Abendstern’.
