Henry Mancini studeerde compositie, piano en orkestdirectie aan de Julliard School of Music. Hij startte zijn muzikale loopbaan als pianist en arrangeur bij het orkest van Tex Beneke maar werd gauw als arrangeur door de filmmaatschappij Universal aangewor
