Christmas is celebrated the all over the world. Each country has its own treasure of traditional Christmas carols. In Central and South America too, the birth of Jesus is musically accompanied by many songs. Our SOUTH AMERICAN CHRISTMAS SUITE of 4 movements introduces carols that originate in different countries of the Americas. The Suite may also be performed together with a children’s or youth choir. And even a theatre performance could be very effectful.

1. Perdida en la Posada / Shelter in the Sable (Mexican Carol)
In this song Joseph asks the shepherds for a shelter during the night, as Mary is expecting a child and she is tired after her long journey.

2. Vamos, Pastorcidos / Come Now, All You Shepherds (Puerto Rican Carol)
This is a somewhat lonely song from Puerto Rico. The beginning is played by a reed pipe, which is rhythmically accompanied by a tambourine. The words that go with the music read: Come now, all you shepherds, hurry to the stable, in Bethlehem was born child Jesus Immanuel.

3. El Rorro / My Little Jesus (Mexican Carol)
Another song from Mexico, this time it is a lullaby.

4. La Jornada / The Journey (Venezuelan Carol)
At last a song from Venezuela. It describes Mary’s escape to Egypt. They were lonely in the desert, nobody came to help them or to warm them up. There was only the loyal donkey that carried Mary.

The SOUTH AMERICAN CHRISTMAS SUITE may also be performed together with a children’s or youth choir. And even a theatre performance could be very effectful.
